Miles Bike all decorated for the local july 4th parade!

There is just nothing better than when your kid learns to ride a bike without training wheels. And today was the perfect example of that. In 85 degree, sweltering sunshine, me and Miles went for a bike ride that was better than perfect! We rode all the way from the house, down through the Town center, stopping for a while to watch the prarie dogs, of course, then went over to Civic Green park to play frisbee in the fountains and chill for a while.

After the park, it was time to go for lunch to Miles new favorite lunch place – SUBWAY! yum! That just about gave us enough strength to ride all the way home, and even pull in a little off road action on the gravel trail! Miles thought he was awesome because he skidded round the corner on the gravel. “Dude, did you see that” was his exact words to me. there’s nothing more pleasing that when your son calls you a “dude” if you ask me!

two weeks in…

…And both Daddy and Miles’s sanity are holding up quote nicely thankyou. We’ve been busy learnoing how to ride our new Razor scooter, cleaning the house, running to target to buy a new toaster (exciting huh?), soccer 2 days a week, playing with friends when they’re not at school and having lunches outside!

Daddy’s Log…

So, as of abut 2 hours ago I added the title “Stay at Home Dad” to my list of titles. Eeek!  In order to document the next 4 months, and maybe just to help save the last remaining part of my sanity, I have decided to blog about this process. I can’t say how its going after just 2 hours, so instead i’ll just share my thoughts on the whole thing:

While i’m not so happy that we pretty much had to do this because of money, hey, i’m a tough guy, i can get past that! And I do feel honored and a little blessed at being able to have the next 4 months with my Miles. So many parents in this modern world don’t get that opportunity, and i’m a lucky guy to have this time!

I’m sure it won’t be one big long holiday – Miles will doubtless complain about being bored, i’ll doubtless feel frazzled at times, we’ll both hardly be able to stand each other (not too often though!) but all that aside, heck, the opportunity to really get inside Miles little life before he heads off to Kindergarten in August is thrilling.

I have thought off and on, ever since Miles was born about the nature of modern parenting. You know, we have kids, we stick em almost right into daycare, we go to work, then we have that 48 hours together at weekends. And there’s no right or wrong way with it.  But at the same time it just lessened the whole reason of being a daddy to me somehow… call me weird for that if you like!

The way I see it is: if i can keep busy with Kilted Chaos (My freelance marketing and web development gig for those not in the know – remember where we are when you hear of a friend needing a website and help out with the hard stuff, paying the bills etc, AND be there for Miles as he starts off into School (and later on, Rhys too) the heck, maybe i’ve not succeeded so much as a “career professional” but on the other hand i get an A+ at parenting, and frankly thats way more important to me than any of the other stuff in life.

So, wish me luck over the next 4 months as me and Miles bond like never before. of course there is a wee 3 week trip to Scotland to look forward to  in a few weeks, which will be rather fun!

A Phineas and Ferb 5th Bday Party for Miles

Today was my 5th bday party.  It was a riot!  I invited many of my friends to My Gym to play with me and do some gymnastics.  I had a blast, as did all of my friends.  First we ran around and jumped on everything.  Then, the staff brought out some big, soft blocks and we had to run through them and not get knocked over.  We all made it with no trouble.  After that, more jumping, playing, running, swinging, and raising havoc.  I tell ya, My Gym does a good party.  I chose this bday cake.  It was so cool, and more importantly, it was yummy in my tummy.  Rhys thought so too.  When the party was over, I came home and opened all of my presents.  I was shocked by all of the gifts.  I got a ton of Star Wars things which is awesome.  I also got 2 big water guns.  Ohhhh yeahhhh.  Overall, I had a great 5th bday.  Thanks to all that help fund it and to those that attended and treated me special.  Love ya. -  Miles
